Want to save on storage space by compressing your audio files, but dont want to settle for the quality loss that formats such as MP3, WMA, and Liquid Audio give you? Check out Monkeys Audio. This friendly, fast, and free tool uses lossless compression techniques to give you smaller audio files while retaining all the quality of the original recording. (Its the audio equivalent of .zip files.) CRCs are incorporated to ensure proper decompression of data. We tested the program with a 44MB .wav file. After Monkeys did its magic, the compressed file was 28MB, and our golden ears couldnt hear the difference between the two. Thanks to the installed Winamp plug-in, Monkeys Audios compressed files can be played back as easily as any MP3 or WAV file. Monkeys Audio also supports the LAME, MP3Enc, MP+, WavPack, RKAU, and Shorten external encoders, along with its own lossless compression format.
